February 17th-March 26th, 2010-National Museum Volunteers (NMV) Guiding Workshop

Learn more about Thai art, history, religion and culture.

Every year the National Museum Volunteers holds a Guiding Workshop to train potential guides for the National Museum Bangkok (NMB). This is a great opportunity to discover the amazing treasures contained within the National Museum and learn so much more about Thai art, history, religion and cultural aspects, a useful foundation for further study.

The English Guiding Workshop lasts for six weeks every Wednesday and Friday morning starting on 17 February 2010 at the NMB. Lectures include the following topics:

    •    Hinduism and the Great Gods with a tour of Hindu Images
    •    History of Pre-Thai to the Thonburi period followed by tour
    •    Evolution of the Buddha Image followed by tour of Buddha Images
    •    Art and history of the Bangkok period followed by Wang Na Palace tour
The last two weeks of the Workshop are spent on in-depth tours of the NMB and developing guiding skills.

Cost: 2,000 baht for NMV members only. Numbers are limited.

For more information or to register for the workshop, email information@museumvolunteersbkk.net
See also our website www.museumvolunteersbkk.net

One of the main functions of the NMV is to offer foreign language tours of the museum in English, French, German and Japanese. We are pleased therefore to announce the English Guiding workshop starting in February. The workshop is for all people who wish to learn more about the rich cultural heritage of the region, while also sharing the fun of becoming part of an international group interested in understanding more about our host country, a great experience which many people consider the highlight of their stay in Bangkok.

March 13th-14th, 20th-21st--Bangkok Community Theatre merrily presents “Pinocchio” at The British Club (Silom Soi 18)

An interactive children’s play for the young, and young at heart!

Bring your little ones to BCT’s wonderfully inventive version of “Pinocchio” to be performed in English at The British Club twice daily at 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm on March 13 & 14  and March 20 & 21, 2010.

Although designed for children 4 to 9 years old, parents will also enjoy this unique type of live theatre-in-the-round, which stimulates the imagination and involves the audience in the action throughout! Children are encouraged to come dressed in costume to add to the fun.

Come early to make some simple crafts with volunteers from the BNH Hospital; the children can use the crafts to participate in the show (craft is already included in the ticket price.) And stay late to enjoy the delicious picnic barbeque, sweets and snacks provided by the British Club on the lawn (refreshments are not included in the ticket price.) Note: there is no parking at the club for this event.

With magic and mime, mischief and mayhem, “Pinocchio” promises to be a memorable family experience. But don’t delay!  Seating is limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are one price at B200 each and will be available to the general public at the Lobby reception desk in the BNH Hospital on 9/1 Convent Road.  Tickets may be purchased from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday and from 8am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. British Club Members may also sign for tickets at the club.

We are very grateful to our sponsors for making this show possible: Bangkok Patana School, BNH Hospital, JVK International Movers and The British Club.
