Central Blood Register Rhesus negative blood groups are very rare in Thailand. Thailand's Central Blood Register lists people willing to give Rhesus negative blood in the event of an emergency. Signing up for the CBR does not carry any obligation, nor does it mean you will necessarily ever be asked to donate. But, if you are called, the chances are you will probably help save someone's life. Contact the CBR on 089-068-8533 or email centralbloodregister@hotmail.com.

GLUTEN-FREE IN BANGKOK - Coelliac and Gluten Intolerance Support Group. Coelliac Disease is an auto-immune disorder that is relatively common in the West but little known in South East Asia. It is a life-long condition for which there is no cure but few doctors in Thailand have even heard of it and the special “gluten-free” foodstuffs that patients need are not always freely available. A new support group has just been launched in Bangkok to help sufferers and parents of children with the condition. They plan to draw up a database of coelliac-friendly shops and restaurants and to lobby supermarkets to stock more gluten-free items. The group will also help give support and information to newly diagnosed patients and to people who want to find out how to get tested. For more information contact Caroline Funck on 087 035 1321 or email glutenfreeinbkk@yahoo.com
