1. Khlong Khon Boat ride and Mangrove Forest Planting – Samut Songkram
Less than 2 hours (72 km) from Bangkok sits one of the largest mangrove forests in Thailand. You can pre-book activities with a local hotel such as Baan Mai Chai Lane Resort or restaurants around the area.
The trip begins with a 15-30 minute boat ride into the mangrove forest. Be ready to get into mud if you choose to plant a mangrove tree or just stay on the boat and feed the local monkeys who come around the boat.
Other animals that can be spotted are small crabs (with one big claw), amphibious fish (walking fish). This trip includes lunch at the “Krateng” (a house in the middle of the sea). There are other activities to enjoy in the afternoon such as a mudslide or picking clams (depending on the weather).
2. Wisdom Farm and Agricultural Museum – Pattumthani
Located inside the Agricultural Museum Complex which is just about 30 minutes drive from Bangkok. The place is very huge and was established by the Ministry of Agriculture in honor of King Bhumibol’s Royal Project.
At Wisdom Farm, you can bike around the area, taste new food at the weekend local market, and get into hands-on activities like building an Adobe Home (mud brick), working on rice paddy fields, visiting a Thai-style house and seeing many agricultural innovations from ancient times such as the first digging boat in Thailand.
Normally, family activities are held on weekends. I suggest that you call to check the activities and pre-book before going.

3. Na Tip Kasem Rice Field– Ayutthaya
Just an hour’s drive from Bangkok, you can experience the traditional Thai farming lifestyle. Na Tip Kasem is an organic rice field with a beautiful Thai house located by the river. Pre-booking is mandatory here. The activities include rice field work (either planting rice in a paddy field or harvesting depending on the time of year), cooking rice products (rice grinding to make rice cake) and having Thai food for lunch, herbal tea, and Thai style coffee/tea making, and feeding goats.

4. Spark Centre, Farm De Lek – Nakorn Nai Yok
Our most favorite, Farm De Lek is more than just a farm with lovely animals, an amazing playground, a natural clean pool and awesome activities for small children. Few people know that there is also a horse riding course and riding trail provided by professional equestrians. Reservations are required.
